Here it is - Windows Vista support

We're as excited to offer this software as many of you have been to get it (my apologies for the delays). Your patience has allowed us to deliver an excellent and well-tested product.

The Diskeeper 2007 software for Windows Vista is a free update, for all current Diskeeper 2007 customers. If you purchased Diskeeper 2007 or have a valid maintenance contract (i.e. upgrade assurance) to Diskeeper 2007 you qualify for this free update. If you don't run Windows Vista, stay tuned as there will be a Diskeeper update coming very soon (use the Check for Updates feature in Diskeeper) for Windows 2000 and Windows XP/2003 users.

As you know, the current Diskeeper versions do not install on Windows Vista, which means the Check for Updates feature won't help. So, the way you can get this product is to contact us and we will send you an email with a link to download the software. Keep in mind that this product is for Windows Vista only; at this time it will not install on Windows XP or Windows 2000. To expedite your request place the words "Diskeeper for Vista Request" in the subject line of the email.

Trialware will be available on the website later this week for anyone who does not yet own Diskeeper 2007.

Here's how to get Diskeeper 2007 for Vista:

If you are volume license customer, contact your Account Manager (Sales Rep). Your volume license reseller, in case you don't know who your Account Manager is, can contact them on your behalf.

If you are a home user or a small business customer, located in North America, who purchased online from Diskeeper.com, contact the Website Sales Team at WebSales@Diskeeper.com. You will need to provide the following:

-Your full name
-Your email address (the one initially used to purchase the product)
-Your order number
-Place the words "Diskeeper for Vista Request" in the subject line of the email.

If you purchased from a North American retail store or online reseller other than Diskeeper.com, you will need to have registered the software. Once this is done, contact Customer Support at Service@Diskeeper.com. You will need to provide the following:

-Your full name
-Your email address (the one initially used to register the product)
-Registration number (or a fax copy of the proof of purchase from the box - note, this will take longer to process)
-Place the words "Diskeeper for Vista Request" in the subject line of the email.

If you are a home user customer who purchased from our European or Asian offices/partners, please contact the sales teams at those locations. Place the words "Diskeeper for Vista Request" in the subject line of your email. This web page can help direct you: http://www.diskeeper.com/international/international.asp

Nice one guys! Got it out the door 6 days before the consumer launch! Well done

Posted by: Vegetunks at January 23, 2007 04:46 AM

I sent my request in this morning about 4 hrs ago and have yet to receive any info regarding the download location of the Vista compatible version of Diskeeper 2007. It's not an automated response? Is someone going to personally direct me to link or what is going on?

Posted by: Marc at January 23, 2007 05:34 PM

Hi Marc,

For the sort term, this is a personally handled communication (by our service and support staff). You'll hear from one of our reps very soon. In the next few weeks, we'll look into automating the process in a manner similar to how we distribute new versions to customers on maintenance, if that is needed.

Any update on the trialware launch?

Posted by: Phil at January 25, 2007 02:14 PM

What's the build number on the vista supporting version?

Posted by: Yagi at January 25, 2007 07:38 PM

Trialware is scheduled to be available later today (January 25th) at around 4pm PST. It will also be available for sale at this time as well. Currently (until later today) if you are purchasing Diskeeper 2007 from the Diskeeper webstore, you will need to contact websales for the Vista build after the purchase.

The build number for the Vista release is 11.0.697.

Posted by: Michael at January 25, 2007 09:20 PM

Not seeing the trialware as up yet. 2:43 am EST on the 26th. Something happen?

Posted by: travis at January 26, 2007 07:50 AM

It looks like the trialware launch must have gotten delayed. Any updates you can provide? Thanks much!

Posted by: Eric at January 26, 2007 02:05 PM

Don't see the trialware build anywhere as of yet. Is it going to be out?

Posted by: Travis at January 26, 2007 05:34 PM

hmmm, Trialware build 11.0.697 is still not up??

Posted by: barn at January 26, 2007 07:08 PM

I cannot find the link to the trialware for Vista :(

Posted by: Dave Cheese at January 27, 2007 12:11 PM

Guess we have to wait a little longer for this new build, hope Michael can tell us what happened with the original date/time he told us. In the end, i'm sure it's only for the good of the product, maybe there was some bug that had to get ironed out before release =)

anyways, hope to hear from you soon Michael, we're all waiting =)

Posted by: Lesley at January 27, 2007 11:13 PM

apperantly there has been another un-anounced delay, hope Michael will be able to tell us what has happened and when the trial will be available. Hope to hear from you soon Michael ;)

I noticed the trialware for Vista is accesible on the business site. I was able to get the trialware by select this option from the main page, but I had to fill out your user profile as a non-profit company.

Posted by: iJuan at January 30, 2007 06:54 PM

Where did you see that? I only see the Vista beta on the business download page.

Posted by: John at January 31, 2007 06:56 PM

Sent email about 18 hours ago requesting Diskeeper Vista link, 'course it is Saturday and perhaps responses are only M-F but still... hopefully soon. =)

Why my Diskeeper 11 I-FAAST funtion show the "I-FAAST has not run" message on the Properties? How to make the I-FAAST work?(the I-FAAST was click to enable already)

Posted by: Marco_Standard at February 6, 2007 04:52 PM

I purchased an upgrade to the Windows Vista version since I own version 10. However, the upgrade version requires that a previous version is installed. After a clean install of Vista, this is impossible since version 10 won't install under Vista. Now I'm stuck with an upgrade I can't use. I've tried contacting support via email and the online tech support area starting on 2/3, but still no response. I've also tried calling, but there's no telephone support for home users. Is it normal for online support to take several days to provide a simple link to the full version of the software after verifying I qualified for the upgrade version?

Posted by: Chris at February 7, 2007 04:07 PM

In order to make accurate decisions, I-FAAST takes time, typically one week, to collect information about what files/free space to optimize.

When it has this info it will take action to increase performance of your most frequently used files.

Hi Marco,

Our Customer Service team will help you out and get you the product to install directly onto your new Vista system. They are busier than usual due to a flood of customers purchasing and requesting Diskeeper for Vista. We are a M-F business so we do have a slight backlog on Mondays.

Posted by: Michael at February 7, 2007 09:51 PM

I received the email and downloaded the Vista version build 698. But I get an error message that I indicates that I'm installing this version (Vista) on an OS that doesn't support it.

Well it is Vista Ultimate so I'm not sure why it won't install properly.

I'm hoping my ticket floats to the top of the pile someday.

Please email with a link to download the software for Vista system 32.
"diskeeper for Windows Vista Home Premium system 32 request.

Posted by: Stane at February 8, 2007 08:19 AM

Hi Greg, build 698 is for XP/2000. You will want build 697 - which is specifically for Vista. We'll have a new release soon that will include all operating system support in one common build, which will make this, temporary process less confusing.

Hi Stane, Please send an email with this request to the service representatives noted above.

Posted by: Michael at February 8, 2007 09:52 PM

I thought you would want to know that Diskeeper 9 installed and ran just fine on Vista Home Basic. I am not sure whether the scheduling will work because I had to manually approve defragmenting. In any case, I plan to upgrade to the 2007 for Vista version when I get all my other hardware and software working.

Posted by: Lee Zimet at February 13, 2007 09:51 PM

I have a dual-booting system and I'm using build 698 with XP and build 697 with Vista. However, the bootup defragmenter works perfectly for XP, completely and then reboots, but for some reason it doesn't work like that for Vista. With Vista, it completes all the stages for Vista and tells me it has finished then shows a "Please wait..." message and nothing happens. I've been able to turn my PC off at the switch and boot into Vista afterwards with no problems so am I not waiting long enough (I only waited 5 mins but it didn't seem to be doing anything as there was no disk activity)?

Posted by: Dan at March 4, 2007 09:07 AM

Hi Dan,

Please report this to Technical Support. You may also want to upgrade to the latest build for Vista.

Posted by: michael at March 12, 2007 10:15 PM

Is it no longer possible to force a scheduled defrag? All I can see is this Idle-cpu thing which seems to require like 99% idle state in order for defrag to start at all (which almost never happens even when I'm not at the keyboard). Which in turn means that I can have no control over when defrag happens. I was hoping for the buggy scheduler in the last version to be improved in 2007.

In addition I am curious about the phenomenon that all defrag programs need to be run several iterations on a very fragmented disk. I can understand that it has to be run several times, but why then is that iteration intelligence not built into the software?

Any advice on how to install the upgrade version on Vista, when it cannot find the old Diskeeper 10 installation (that was on my XP volume - it cannot be installed on Vista)?

Posted by: Penny Schenk at March 24, 2007 04:13 PM

Hi Daniel,

As for idle time, it does not need 99% idle time. As long as you don't exceed 60-80% CPU utilization on a constant, never-ending basis (if you do you need more CPUs), defrag will happen. Part of this design is to ensure Diskeeper can truly remain invisible on the computer. Please also note that Diskeeper does wait for a period of time (up to 30 minutes or so) before addressing new file fragmentation.

I agree that the scheduler in older versions was complicated to use. It employed a double-negative when options such as Smart Scheduling were selected. Diskeeper 2007 has improved the control-ability of when it is active. The Automatic Defragmentation properties page has a time chart that you adjust. By default it is on all the time (colored blue), but you can turn it off highlighting over the blocks that represent day/time with your mouse and disable Diskeeper, turning the blocks to red. This is much simpler than is past version where you had to select from drop down options.

For the record, there is still a command line interface for Diskeeper called simply diskeeper.exe. You can still use this to execute Task Scheduler jobs.

As for the phenomenon you speak, most defragmenters when run on a "do it now" basis (i.e. run it manually) will defragment all the files and consolidate the free space in "one pass". On more fragmented disks, where space is at a premium, more passes are often needed by a defragmenter. How many depends on the product. Given that Diskeeper has always focused development for the corporate market (computer networks) where automation is of primary consequence, we have not put resources into doing it all at once. In the past we employeed a "mult-pass" approach as this is less resource intensive and because defragmentation is not a once and done solution. Fragmentation happens all the time, so a solution needs to occur just as frequently. Multi-pass was the best way to do so in the past. That has now evolved into real-time, which is even more proactive - and prevents any fragmentation-type issues in the first place. It's better to never get the computer virus in the first place than to be able to clean it up after it is begun to affect the PC/Server. Diskeeper developed this tech for the same reason that anti-malware companies are moving towards malware-recognition/AI technologies, rather than relying on virus/spyware definition databases. Defragment the file or free space when it fragments, don't wait until a schedule "pass" or a manual run, when the situation has compounded itself. And if you are in the position, like many customers are when they first evaluate Diskeeper, of a badly fragmented disk, the real time defrag will work away at fixing the situation, in the background, until it is done.

Diskeeper has never tried to be the best "manual defrag" on the market. If someone is seeking a product like this, it is likely best to go elsewhere. Personally I think it is a waste of time for me, or anyone else to wait around for a defrag to complete.

Though many customers have told us over the years "Diskeeper does it all already, what more can you possibly do with the software?", we know there is always more that can be done. And to answer your question in a less than direct manner (sorry for that), we are making additional advancements in a number of areas to get closer to the point where we can finally say "Diskeeper is completed - we are done".

I am upset. I purchased Diskeeper 2007 Home over a month ago. I was told it was Vista compatible but it wasn't. Now I need the link for the update for Windows Vista.

Posted by: Michael Hollenbeck at July 7, 2007 10:26 AM

Hi Michael,

You should have recieved a "newer" build of Diskeeper that support Vista. We have been delivering versions that support Vista for over 3 months. Perhaps there was an error in what you were sent?

As a quick option, you can download the latest Diskeeper trialware (make sure to download the proper edition - e.g. Home, Professional or Pro Premier) to your Vista PC. Place the license file you were provided when you purchased the software last month next to the setup.exe file of the trialware. Launch the installation on your Vista PC. You should then have a licensed install (on your Vista PC) of Diskeeper 2007.

If you prefer, you can email our Customer Support staff. They'll make provide you new download links, and license files and can address any other questions you have.
