Just install it and let 'er rip! - Diskeeper 2007 is now available!
What best describes Diskeeper 2007?
I think beta tester Michael Ratledge (an IT security pro) said it best - "Just install it and let 'er rip!"
Diskeeper 2007 does what an automatic defragmenter should do. It defragments files on-the-fly without any impact on the system. Powered by new InvisiTasking technology, Diskeeper is the only technology that can truly deliver transparent operations.
Whether you are running a mission critical 24/7 enterprise server, or the latest graphics-intensive game, Diskeeper 2007 intelligently uses only unused system resources (if and when they are available). InvisiTasking goes far beyond the limitations of I/O and CPU throttling. There's simply no comparison.
What does that mean?
It means no more need to turn off your defragmenter, schedule at "off" hours, or manual defrag when you have a few minutes. And, Diskeeper 2007 is simple for the user - no need to figure out "settings" or what "type" of defragmentation is best for your system. Diskeeper does it for you, intelligently and dynamically determining what your system needs for peak file system performance!

Just downloaded Diskeeper 2007 Pro Premiere and I'm noticing steady improvements to my computer. The InvisiTasking technology is working well and improving performance. Don't since any lag because of it either. Can't wait to see what I-FAAST 2.0 will do. So far I like this much better than DK 10 Pro Premiere. Great Product.

DisKeeper 2007 ROCKS!!! I'm running it on my XP system. Its definately faster than version 10. I tried to install on Vista RC2, but it didnt work???

Hi Wordsworth. Thanks for the positive comments. While we (Diskeeper Corp) work as developers on products designed primarily for enterprise, many of us are also gamers. One feature that I love about I-FAAST 2.0 is the ability to select files. While it's great for the "business" machine, it's also sped up my personal PC that I use for gaming. I've been using I-FAAST 2.0 on my game files right after I install them. Like you, I run Pro Premier on my PCs.
Enjoy the software!

Hi Jo. Great, glad you like it! We are still waiting for Vista to release to manufacturing (RTM) before we release a Diskeeper to "officially" support it. When software is RTM, that means it is code-complete and can be burned onto CDs/DVDs and shipped to resellers. Given that rumor has Vista RTM around October 25, we'll likely have a product a few weeks afterwards, but in time for Vista's release to public (RTP). RTP is when the product can start shipping to customers. Expect that future "Diskeeper betas for Vista" will be based on v2007. Given our success with the current Vista beta program, I'm leaning towards keeping it a "public" beta, as opposed to a "private" one. We've been running v2007 on Vista in-house for many weeks. We're also wrapping development of Vista-compatible Diskeeper products for our OEM partners (Lenovo, Sony, Intel and more) to ship with their new PCs.

Re Downloads Pro Premier Edition "file not found" - when is this going to be fixed??
Posted by: Mike Former at October 18, 2006 04:02 PM
Hi Mike. I've added a new blog post to direct you to the right people at Diskeeper to help you out.
Posted by: Michael at October 18, 2006 07:59 PM
It will install (or should I say stay installed and work on RC2) if you do an upgrade install from Windows XP to RC2 Vista. odd, but it does as do alot of other programs that vista won't let you directly install.
Posted by: xgman at October 19, 2006 12:46 AM
This is a double-post - it is also in the Diskeeper and Vista blog.
Yes, very true. Though there are known bugs (running on Vista) in the software you would have been using on XP. Paul Thurott of winsupersite covered this as well in one of his articles on Vista (that Diskeeper can be used).
If you absolutely want to get Diskeeper on Vista, you can be clever and edit the installer. If you do that (and we don't endorse or support that) at least use the latest beta version we have for Vista, as it will at least have less bugs (if any).

Hi,
I was curious when emails with instructions for downloading Diskeeper 2007 will be sent out to those who have maintainence contracts.
Thanks!
Posted by: Howell Selburn at October 24, 2006 01:34 AM
Hi Howell. You should have already recieved this. Given that you have not, please contact your reseller or Diskeeper sales rep.
Posted by: Michael at October 24, 2006 07:49 AM
Howell,
I also have maintenance and have not received email on how to dowload 2007. I have sent mail to cusotmer support and haven't heard back. And since I am a home user, diskeepr doesn't answer the phone for me :(

Hi Gene,
We have tens of thousands of home user customers on maintenance like yourself. As we email out download links and instructions, that volume means that we get thousands of emails back during a release. Your email would have been delivered to the address on file. If a customer's email address is no longer valid or the email service (i.e. ISP) used by the customer has faulty span/virus blocking, it may not get through.
Typically Customer Service responds within 24 hours, but these past few weeks it can be a few days before you hear back from a human (i.e. not just the auto-response email). I apologize for the delays, but please know we will help you out.

And why do I find that after downloading a trial edition my WXP Defrag option is eliminated???
Buy or fry? This is not fair business practice. Before I compain, what happened?

Sorry to say, but DK 2007 is a giant step back in performance and stability , and features.
Where is the screen saver mode ??? you drop it out, meanwhile it was one of the easiest way to defrag when it's exactly sure that your computer is in idle, you replace it with invisitasking, that's an eyecandy marketing sloogan! that's for the avarage user! not for the advanced admins!
as an it pro, i want to know when my machine will defrag exactly, invitask will try to use idle resource, but of course sometimes he will miss! i got a 98% cpu usage by DK2007 (at least 1-2 minutes, first i can't guess what is it), and i can't do anything, slowly my task manager come up and i killed the dkservice process by manual, :-(( that was all about invisitasking! UNINSTALL! useless!!!
invisitasking like a compact all automated camera! it's just a marketing, and good for beginner.
Pros want to know and control everything!! they buy cameras with manual option!
i am very sad, your DK was the best when you started to program as a little company, but as you grow bigger and bigger, you are developing software like MS, stability don't count, only the marketing !!! It's normal, so i apprehend your approach
You come up with good sounding words like iifast, invisitasking, set it and forget it !
if i want to be accurate, set it and forget it working as the slogan said!

Hi Kirkpatrick,
Diskeeper replaces the built-in defragmenter when it is installed. If you uninstall Diskeeper the built-in product will be restored.
Posted by: michael at November 21, 2006 09:13 AM
Hi Ujhazi,
InvisiTasking works exceptionally well - what you are seeing is an anomaly. If Diskeeper ever takes more than 50% CPU, that is indicative of an issue, and I understand your upset and concern. Either you have an unusual setting that causes this behavior in DK or you are experiencing a bug. Please contact technical support right away.
Screensaver mode is redundant with real-time defragmentation. We do understand your need for control as an IT professional. DK2007 offers greater flexibility and control as to when DK will be active than any previous version.
Given that defrag is a required activity for performance, but not exactly a fun or exciting one, making it fully automatic let's anyone (beginner or professional) focus on things important to them like gaming or fine tuning a database...
Posted by: michael at November 21, 2006 09:28 AM
Ujhazi:
I'm sorry that you are having problems. I've had nothing but great experiences with the new Diskeeper.
Screensaver mode is a compromise. Just because your screensaver is on does not mean your system is not busy. Worse, you can have long sessions with lots of disk access with no defragmentation because the screen saver never kicks in, this leaves more of a mess for the defragmenter to fix when it finally runs. (Not to mention slower performance during your session.)
This is a huge win, and I'm sorry it's not working right for you. Work with technical support to figure out why.

Hi,
I have a question: how DK work on Windows server 2003 SBS,with SQL server installed?Automatic defrag with InvisiTasking does run without any interference with SQL databases?
tnx.
Posted by: diskman at December 3, 2006 01:25 AM
Diskeeper (and InvisiTasking) will treat SBS like any other server, and the SBS apps (SQL, Exchange) like any other apps. In short, every process/application on a system has priority over an InvisiTasking process. InvisiTasking will need to wait for periods of inactivity before it is allowed to perform any action.

Is this this the right place to ask a technical question about Diskeeper. I purchased Diskeeper 2007 Home a few weeks ago. Since then I have been unsuccessful in achieving automatic defrag - if I want my disks defragmented I have to do it manually. I have searched the online documentation but to no avail. Anyone know what might be stopping the automatic option from working. I have it enabled for all disks. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing (inc. uninstall previous version of DK Lite.
Thanks - and happy Xmas.

I do not like the new diskeeper as much as the version 10. There is no icon in the task bar telling me that it is working. Right now I have reactivated the auto defrag mode on one of my drives as a test. This is currently using 37% of CPU 2. This is a lot more CPU usage that with the previous version. I will probably end up turning the auto mode off and manually using diskeeper.
Posted by: James Tidwell at January 2, 2007 06:03 PM
Hi James,
The icon was removed as Diskeeper uses the new InvisiTasking technology. That means Diskeeper can jump in and out of system resources (to do some defrag work) in fractions of a second; faster than an icon would appear and dissappear in the system tray. If it is using 37% of CPU (which it can do during initial periods of being enabled) it indicates that those resources are available for use. Rather than waste those resources (the CPU time would go unused as System Idle Time), Diskeeper does some positive work for your computer. If you open another application or even just move your mouse, you'll see Diskeeper back off on the CPU usage. You're always welcome to disable Diskeeper for a period of time using the Timeline (on the Dashboard) - just highlight the time you want to disable Diskeeper (it will turn red) and set it by clicking on Apply.

Hi there
I have Diskeeper 2007 and I liked the way the earlier version could be set to run IFAAST manually , and as Iv'e read on a post here that you could set it to run daily if you have a very dynamic system , which I tend to have. My question is how does Diskeeper 2007 IFAAST work on this since it seems it just makes its own mind up on when to do an IFAAST defrag. Can DK2007 IFAAST be forced to work daily on a very dynamic system as in DK10. Hope this makes sense, thanks for your help
Posted by: Greg at January 15, 2007 07:58 AM
Hi Greg,
I-FAAST (given it is enabled) does run daily. One of the considerations in previous versions was the resources required to move the files according to I-FAAST logic. That is no longer the case with InvisiTasking. Typically, once the intial file sequencing has occured, all that is needed on a daily basis is minor file arrangements.

"Just install it and let 'er rip" does not reflect my experience. I have never used Diskeeper before. I downloaded the trial home version of Diskeeper 2007, and when it runs I get a blank volume list. If it's this hard to deal with already, I'm not very tempted to buy it, that's for sure. I'm running Windows XP SP2, and have two SATA drives, if that makes any difference. Yes, I am running as an administrator, and I've checked the ACLs; that is not the problem.

Hi Dan,
You experienced a bug. We have a fix already available. Customer's with this issue can contact our support team. The "fixed" version will also be available as trialware early next week (DK build 11.0.693).
Posted by: Michael at January 20, 2007 12:44 AM
In response to those that have commented that invisitasking doesn't work or takes up too many resources, I would advise you to allow Diskeeper 2007 to run for at least 24 hrs in auto mode before making a judgement, I noticed considerable activity during the first 24hr period as Diskeeper 2007 was initially getting my drive defragged. Since that has completed my system(tablet pc) is not only running faster than ever, but cooler due to more efficient HDD usage! I noticed complaints from "IT pros". Having been in the industry for 10 years, I have come to understand that a program like this that improves efficiency takes a little time to "tweak" the drive. It is not instant gratification like adding another stick of RAM. Great Job Folks!

Where can I download it from Lenovos site for my Notebook, that I recently upgraded to Windows Vista?
Posted by: Cetin at January 10, 2008 02:11 PM
Hi,
I'm not sure, though I expect that his is not available for direct download - other than through a secure login (given it is full version software). I suggest contacting Lenovo, but they may note that the Vista version of DK is only offered to purchasers of their new Vista pre-installed laptops.

I stick by my original statement! DK2008 is another step forward...
